Color in film

Went to Coney Island last week when Alex and Nate were here visiting.

I love film, but it's the biggest hassle in the world to get it to the point you see above. I could have bought 2 4gb memory cards for the time and price it took me to get a roll of 36 frames to be developed, scanned, touched up and uploaded to flickr.

But sometimes it's worth it. I love the color in these photos. ( Is $22 dollars to develop and 36 4x6 photos worth it? Guys?)

Weekend Update 7/22/07

Went to Siren Music Festival at Coney Island yesterday with Liz. I didn't know most of the lineup this year so I wasn't really interested in staying to hear most of it. We did sit on the (nasty) beach drinking beer for a while. Wow Coney Island sand <<<< Cape Cod sand. Well, duh. Plus the water is nasty. Large clouds of sand in the waves and shit. Eww.

Then we went to Plum beach. And I realized that it was a bay, and there were no waves. And during low tide, the water is so shallow that you can walk out very far and still only be knee deep in water. Then I got really pissed that I forgot to bring my camera to photograph Liz and another person was photographic a girl a ways down from where we were.

So next time. Trust me, these photos are going to be awesome. I already have them all envisioned somewhat. I love this beach. Even though it's known to be a gay hook up spot after dark and some gay man from Ikea was tricked into going there and got robbed and hit by a car last year and died.

I'm also pretty much out of girls I know that I want to photograph, so if anyone knows any girls that wants to model, tell them to contact me. "Pretty" people only please. Yes I know it's shallow. Or guys, but I'm a lot more picky about who I want to photograph with guys.

Really Wish I Had My Camera

I was at Coney Island tonight around 6pm-ish. It had just rained. The light was the most glorious thing I've ever seen. It was PERFECT. The clouds had a really strange formation going on, and there was a huge rainbow. The sun was also coming out of a pocket of clouds.

I didn't have my camera. A little part of me just died.

Took this off my cell phone. Doesn't do it justice.

Revisting Coney Island Part II

Went to Coney Island again, now with more people!

My new wallpaper:

This is a crop a of larger photo. It was not digitally manipulated in any way.

The bokeh on the Tamron 17-50mm gets real weird and painterly. It looks really nice blown up.

Revisiting Coney Island (now in color)

Ashley and I went to Coney Island yesterday to take pictures. She needed to do the act of photography and I wanted to play with my D80 and see how the place would look in color. It's so different to me. My senior show was shot in black and white and medium format. Now I'm going back to shot in color and 35mm.

It was weird adjusting to the wider frame. I tried to take some photos the exact same way I did it with my Yashica (like the two above).

They took out the broken phone post that was in near this wall. I noticed a lot of little differences when I was there. Like the sand level being higher on one of the lamp post I took a shot of last year. The also tore down some of the amusement areas since the buyout of some of the space there. The mini golf, go-kart and baseball cage were all tore down. It's going to be really different in Coney Island this summer.

Ashley says "bye!"
